Geomagnetic Storm Watch: NOAA Issues Rare Level Alert

Massive Solar Storm Predicted to Hit Earth

Experts Warn of Potential Impacts

Washington, D.C. - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a rare Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch for May 11, warning of an impending solar storm that could potentially disrupt infrastructure and communication systems.

According to NOAA, solar activity has reached high levels, with at least four coronal mass ejections (CMEs) heading towards Earth. A CME is a massive burst of charged particles released by the sun, which can cause disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field.

If the CMEs reach Earth this weekend, they could trigger a severe geomagnetic storm, with potential impacts including power outages, satellite disruptions, and disruptions to air travel.

US authorities have issued the first Severe G4 Geomagnetic Storm Watch alert in almost 20 years, highlighting the seriousness of the threat. The CME that triggered the alert was a massive burst of solar wind that could potentially cause widespread disruption.
