Support for 24,000 Jobs

Millions of dollars in contracts have been awarded to build the Suburban Rail Loop East and North, supporting an estimated 24,000 jobs. A new website, jobs.suburbanrailloop.vic.gov.au, has been established for people in the construction industry to find out about upcoming opportunities.

SRL East Contracts Awarded

Work is underway on the Eastern Tunnel, with two major contracts awarded. The first contract, worth $1.2 billion, has been awarded to CPB Contractors and Ghella Pty Ltd to build the tunnel from Cheltenham to Glen Waverley. The second contract, worth $804 million, has been awarded to Laing O'Rourke Australia Construction Pty Ltd to build the tunnel from Glen Waverley to Burwood. These contracts will support more than 3,000 jobs during construction. Around 170 new jobs will be created in the next two years, with many more to follow as construction ramps up.

SRL North Contracts Expected Soon

Contracts for the Northern Tunnel are expected to be awarded in mid-2023. The tunnel will run from Cheltenham to Box Hill, with stations at Northcote, Preston, Reservoir, and Bundoora. Construction of the Northern Tunnel is expected to support more than 5,000 jobs during construction. Planning approvals for the Northern line have been awarded.

Australia's Largest Public Transport Project

The Suburban Rail Loop is the largest public transport project in Australian history and is supported by hundreds of businesses and industry groups. The project will create around 24,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and thousands more once operational. The Suburban Rail Loop will transform Melbourne's transport network, making it easier to get around the city and reducing congestion on roads. The project will also create new jobs and boost the economy.
