Twin Tunnel Line And Four New Stations In The Works

Suburban Rail Loop Construction to Begin with Stage One Plans Finalized

Twin-Tunnel Line and Four New Stations in the Works

Melbourne's Public Transport Network to Undergo Major Expansion

The first stage of Melbourne's long-awaited Suburban Rail Loop project has been finalized, with Stage One set to connect the city's south-eastern suburbs. This twin-tunnel standalone line will fully integrate into Melbourne's existing public transport network with four new underground stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Glen Waverley, and Box Hill. It will provide direct rail connections to major health, education, retail, and employment precincts in the south-east.

Stage One of the Suburban Rail Loop will run from Cheltenham to Box Hill and will connect to existing stations on the Frankston, Glen Waverley, and Lilydale lines. Once completed, the entire Suburban Rail Loop will total 90 kilometers and link every major train service from the Frankston Line to the Werribee Line via Melbourne Airport. The project is expected to significantly enhance public transport connectivity and accessibility in Melbourne, reducing congestion and travel times.
